P-464 Aircraft Maintenance Hangar

MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina

The new hangar supports the fighter attack squadron’s relocation to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), Mid-Atlantic selected 澳门足彩app to design and construct the new 103,000-square-foot P-464 Aircraft Maintenance Hangar with an operational support facility, pilot fit facility and three-story ramped parking structure accommodating 260 vehicles at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, South Carolina. Certified under the Green Building Initiative as a High Performance & Sustainable Building, the facility meets critical requirements for stationing Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 at MCAS Beaufort while accommodating the unique operational and security requirements of the F-35B Lightning II aircraft.

The facility protects classified information and equipment.

The new hangar is a multi-story Type 1 aircraft maintenance hangar for an F-35B Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) Training Squadron and supports legacy-compliant aircraft. The structure sports a high bay space to accommodate F-35Bs, crew and equipment space, administrative space, data network areas, pilot brief and debrief rooms and ancillary support functions. The design for the Special Access Program Facility area allows for the secure handling and storage of classified material and components critical to Squadron 501’s mission.

Construction was phased to keep the airfield active 24/7.

Apron expansion for the new facility was done on an active airfield. 澳门足彩app worked in a phased approach developed in conjunction with Airfield Manager Bryan Corns to maximize the usable apron parking and sequence taxiway tie-ins to minimize disruption to the airfield operations. Our Superintendent maintained regular contact with the flight tower to coordinate work. The client was able to maintain mission-critical operations 24/7 while the new hangar and supporting facilities were constructed.
